After traveling to Central and South America over the last six months, I have been longing for food from the region. Luckily a friend of mine suggested we go to Andes Cafe. My friend had been there frequently, but I had yet to try it.
The food at Andes is quite remarkable for its authenticity and value. We ordered from the Happy Hour Menu, which features multiple items for $5 or less. Even though the you are paying happy hour prices, you still get considerable portion from their “small plates.”
The fish ceviche, a Peruvian tradition, was very similar to what I had on my trip to South America. It was one of my favorite dishes. Another of my favorites was the beef empanadas. You really can’t go wrong with anything from the happy hour selections. Be sure to try both the beef and pork empanadas, as they are made quite differently. The same thing goes for the shrimp verses fish ceviche.
I look forward to returning to try more of the “small plates,” as well as entrees from the “large plates.” Regular prices range from around $7 to $10 on the small plates to $15 to $20 on the large plates. There are a few higher priced items, including Cuy Platter (deep fried or roasted guinea pig). There is a full bar featuring various beers, wine, and cocktails. Additionally, there is plenty of free parking.
